Pathfinder
A depth-leadership assessment your senior clients can actually feel.
For coaches and consultants working with executives and senior leaders, Pathfinder is the individual leadership assessment from Bill Isaacs and dialogOS. It maps the four inner circuits of leadership (visionary, relational, performance, insight) and the archetypal patterns, shadows and polarities at play in each leader. Your client gets a structured, in-depth read of how their own inner architecture shapes what is possible. You stay the strategist, debriefing the patterns and turning the insight into a developmental path. Built on four decades of work in dialogue, systems thinking and organizational learning. Not a personality test; a developmental container.

What Pathfinder measures
Pathfinder rests on a simple but profound premise from Bill Isaacs and the dialogOS team: each of us contains multiple parts, or archetypal energies, that shape how we lead. At times these align. At times they pull us into shadow. Pathfinder surfaces those patterns, connects them to a deeper Self, and gives your client a structured way to act with clarity. It is the leadership assessment and development engine of dialogOS, built from decades of work in leadership development, including the Leadership for Collective Intelligence (LCI) program at MIT Sloan, and grounded in Bill's book Dialogue: The Art of Thinking Together.
Six dimensions
Visionary Circuit
How your client orients toward purpose, possibility, and what wants to emerge.
Relational Circuit
How they hold and read the connections between people in their system.
Performance Circuit
How they convert intent into structure, decision and delivery.
Insight Circuit
How they sense patterns beneath the noise and integrate what they learn.
Archetypal patterns
Which leadership archetypes are most active, and how they show up in real moments.
Shadows and polarities
The unintegrated patterns that hold leaders back, and the tensions they need to hold rather than resolve.
Typical use cases for coaches and consultants
- Open an executive coaching engagement with a depth-read your client trusts more than a personality test.
- Anchor a senior-leader development plan in archetypes, shadows and polarities instead of competencies.
- Use Pathfinder ahead of a board, founder-transition or succession conversation to surface what is really at play.
- Layer onto LCI-style leadership work where systemic awareness is the goal.
- Equip your one-on-one coaching with a shared language for what your client is actually navigating inside.
How it works

You administer the survey
Once certified, you set up and send Pathfinder to a senior-leader client through the dialogOS Online Survey Delivery Platform. Customize the email, track responses, see the report come through. Included in your Practitioner license.
The leader completes Pathfinder
Your client invests [EDIT - typical respondent time]. Pathfinder maps their circuits, archetypal patterns, shadows and polarities into a structured individual report.
You debrief, supported by Pathfinder AI
You read the report through the lens of your coaching practice, with the Pathfinder AI chatbot available to help you interpret patterns and design coaching prompts. You hold the conversation. The tool surfaces the signals beneath the noise.

Built so you can deploy Pathfinder inside your own practice and earn your margin.
Pathfinder is licensed through certification, not sold per report. You complete the Pathfinder Practitioner Certification once. From then on, an annual Practitioner license lets you administer Pathfinder with as many clients as your practice can hold. Your margin lives in what you charge your clients for the engagement around the assessment.

Frequently asked questions
Who is Pathfinder for?
Coaches, consultants and facilitators working 1-on-1 with senior leaders, executives and founders, who want to bring a depth-leadership read into their practice. It is designed for engagements where archetypes, shadow patterns and polarities are more useful than competency scores or personality types. It is also suited to internal leaders building their own facilitation capacity.
How long does the engagement take?
The Pathfinder Practitioner Certification itself is two full-day live virtual sessions (9am to 5pm with breaks) plus reflection and peer exchange. Once certified, deploying Pathfinder with a client takes about [EDIT: Alex to confirm respondent time + turnaround from survey to report] plus the debrief conversation you design.
In which languages is Pathfinder available?
[EDIT: Alex to confirm; default English]. If you need a language not listed, ask. Additions can usually be arranged.
What does my client receive as a deliverable?
An individual Pathfinder report mapping their four inner circuits (visionary, relational, performance, insight), the archetypes most active in them, and the shadow patterns and polarities at play. The debrief conversation is yours to hold, supported by the Pathfinder AI tool which helps you interpret patterns and design coaching prompts.
How is privacy handled?
Responses live in the dialogOS Online Survey Delivery Platform under Pathfinder's data protections. [EDIT: Alex to confirm specifics: hosting region, GDPR / SOC2 status, retention policy, who can see individual reports.]
Do I need to be certified to deploy this with my clients?
Yes. Pathfinder is a certification-gated assessment. You complete the Pathfinder Practitioner Certification first, two full-day live virtual sessions plus reflection and peer exchange, and from then on hold an annual Practitioner license that lets you administer Pathfinder with as many clients as you choose. Certification also brings you into the Pathfinder Practitioner Community for ongoing learning.
How does pricing work, and what is my margin?
You pay once for certification and the first-year Practitioner Community Membership, then renew annually. There is no per-report fee on top of that. Your margin sits in what you charge your client for the leadership engagement around Pathfinder, not in marking up a per-assessment cost. Specific numbers are shared on a discovery call.
Can I combine Pathfinder with other Esperto assessments?
Yes. Many partners pair Pathfinder with the Organizational Culture Survey (the team and culture context the leader operates in), 5 States of Success (the leader's wider success profile), or S.C.O.P.E. (organizational and functional agility). Pathfinder reads the individual leader at depth; other assessments map the system around them.
Let's talk about how Pathfinder fits your practice.
A short discovery call is the fastest way to know whether Pathfinder belongs in your practice. We'll ask how you work with senior leaders, whether you are open to becoming a certified Pathfinder Practitioner, and where depth-leadership work sits in your offering. Then we'll be honest about whether Pathfinder is the right match, or whether something else in the Esperto toolkit fits better.
